Campaigners opposed to the M3 motorway being routed through the Hill of Tara have urged world archaeological leaders to call for a halt to its construction. The impact of the controversial road through Co Meath was discussed at the Sixth World Archaeological Congress (WAC) being held in University College Dublin. The non-governmental group - which is the only archaeological organisation with elected global representation - holds an international convention every four years. Several organisations including TaraWatch, the Meath Archaeological and Historical Society and the National Roads Authority as well as government officials and academics argued for and against the motorway route.
